This Saturday: Cleveland's 3rd Annual Eucharistic Procession with Legion of Mary and Father Estabrook

The Cleveland Legion of Mary will have its 3rd Annual Eucharistic Procession through the streets of downtown Cleveland on Saturday September 4 at Noon.  The Procession will be preceded by Mass at 11 am with the Procession at 12 pm starting at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Cleveland. The Cathedral is located at 1007 Superior Avenue, Cleveland.

Over 300 people attended last year's Eucharistic Procession, and this year local Catholics are hoping to double that number. Cleveland area Catholics are being encouraged to contact family and friends and to use social media to spread the word. This Procession is particularly timely given recent poll results showing only about one third of Catholics believe in the Real Presence. Please make this event a priority and bring some friends.

According to organizers, “the (less than one mile in distance) procession will be through the sidewalks of downtown Cleveland, as we walk, pray, and sing in honor of our Eucharistic Lord Jesus and Our Lady, the Blessed Virgin Mary. The event includes Holy Mass with Father Kevin Estabrook, our Legion of Mary Comitium Spiritual Director, a procession with hymns, and a return to the Cathedral for the recitation of the Rosary and closing prayers. RSVP is not required. For further information email contact@legionofmarynorthernohio.org or https://www.facebook.com/legionofmarynorthernohio/.”

Local Catholics are excited to see Father Estabrook leading this event for the second straight year. The pastor at St. Ignatius of Antioch Church in Cleveland has been widely praised for bringing new life and energy to his historic urban parish. This year is the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the Legion of Mary.  The Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church, with well over 3 million active members in almost every country of the world. The Legion of Mary has been active in the United States since 1931. The main purpose of the Legion of Mary is to give glory to God through the sanctification of its members.

The Cause for Beatification has been introduced for three legionaries: The Servant of God, Frank Duff (1889-1980), Founder of the Legion; Venerable Edel Quinn (1907-1944), Legion Envoy to East Africa; and the Servant of God, Alfie Lambe (1932-1959), Legion Envoy to South America.  More than a few local Clevelanders have a strong devotion to Alfie Lambe who was born in Tullamore, County Offaly in Ireland to a farming family.

Saturday promises to be an important day as we strive to restore a Christian culture in our home town.  A great turnout is imperitive.  Please help spread the word of this very important Eucharistic Procession and we hope to see you on Saturday!
