Free Lenten Retreat 3/26 for Cleveland Young Adults - You Are Invited!





Fr Doug Brown, Fr Kevin Estabrook, Fr Michael Petkosek and Fr Matt Pfeiffer will lead a free Lenten retreat at Mary Queen of Peace this Saturday (3/26) for young adults.  The event includes a Traditional Latin Mass, Adoration, Confession and talks as well as complimentary Breakfast and Lunch.

The retreat is being sponsored by the Oliver Plunkett Social Club. In only its first year, this innovative group has raised funds for an inner-city parish, distributed free Chicken Paprikash dinners in the Buckeye neighborhood, prayed at PreTerm, and hosted several relaxed, fun and informal gatherings for young Catholic adults. On a monthly basis the group helps distribute meals at St Ignatius Antioch.


Just last week members of the club helped raise over $1,600 to purchase fish dinners at the Benedictine Fish Fry and distribute the meals to neighbors near PreTerm stating: "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. " See here: https://givesendgo.com/cbhs


This bold and creative group is just getting started and they want you to join them!  


In the spirit of the late Bishop Pilla and his ground-breaking “Church in the City” initiative, these young adults are committed to championing Cleveland’s beautiful, historic urban churches.  They are actively helping to revitalize several of these churches through their support of “the Mass of the Ages” - the Traditional Latin Mass.  The young Catholic adults believe “the Good, the True, and the Beautiful” can help bring home many of the 500,000 Catholics in our diocese no longer attending Mass.

  It was a match made in Heaven. The Traditional Latin Mass and some of Cleveland’s most beautiful, historic churches.  Immaculate Conception, St Stephen’s, St, Rocco’s and more recently Mary Queen of Peace, St. Elizabeth of Hungary and St. Ignatius of Antioch.    In many ways it was the fulfillment of former Bishop Pilla’s excellent Church in the City initiative.  Catholics from all over Northeastern Ohio gathering together in some of our older urban neighborhoods and worshipping Our Lord.  Obviously, the very positive financial impact on some of these struggling parishes can not be overstated.  It is significant and probably saved a parish or two.  But there is more.  Far more. 5 Great Eucharistic Adoration Sites in Cleveland

The world has gone mad, no doubt.  But how should we respond?  Since we are basically only on this Earth for a nanosecond when compared to eternity, perhaps we should find time to talk to God, to discern His will for us, and then to try to do his will…make time to talk with our Lord, to listen to Him, and to beg Him for mercy.  One of the best ways to do this is at Eucharistic Adoration.   "Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration is the adoration of Jesus Christ present in the Holy Eucharist. In the many Churches that have this adoration, the Eucharist is displayed in a special holder called a monstrance, and people come to pray and worship Jesus continually throughout the day and often the night. They came for the Beauty, They Stayed to Give Back - The Latin Mass Community Rolls Up Its Sleaves!

Catholic Tradition is more than Latin, incense and bells; it is feeding a neighbor, clothing a stranger, and rescuing the unborn.  And so, when more and more young adults started returning to the beautiful, historic Catholic churches in urban Cleveland and attending the timeless Traditional Latin Mass, these same young adults found neighborhoods in need of their love, kindness and Christian Charity.        Thanks to these young Catholic traditionalists, last month we were able to witness Cleveland charity at its best.  And when the Cleveland Latin Mass community, the pro-life community, the Benedictines and people with good hearts all work together amazing things can happen.  In mid-March, on the eve of the Feast of St Joseph, friends of Father Bede OSB joined together to supply residents in the Buckeye/Shaker Blvd neighborhood with 100 free fish dinners from the Benedictine HS fish fry.  The idea started with the Oliver Plunkett Young Adult Club as a way of thanking Father Bede OSB fo
