St. Ignatius Antioch Latin Mass 5:30 pm Monday: Fellowship, Fun & Philbin? This Month’s Oliver Plunkett Social Club Gathering


The Oliver Plunkett Social Club is back in action with a great upcoming event.  Founded by Cleveland area young adult Catholics, the group combines a love of the Latin Mass with hearts of gold dedicated to finding creative ways to give back to the Cleveland community.  Their combination of Faith and Philanthropy has already resulted in a thriving young community dedicated to doing good while having a very good time.

 

This Monday, September 13th, the club will gather for the regularly scheduled 5:30pm Monday Latin Mass at historic St. Ignatius Church. 

 

Following Mass, the group will gather in the cafeteria for a potluck meal and a short presentation from Andy Philbin of Sidewalk Advocates for Life. The Sidewalk Advocates for Life have revolutionized the sidewalk counseling effort in Cleveland outside of PreTerm.  Andy will talk about the group's upcoming Day of Prayer at Preterm on September 25, providing some brief training tips for everyone and explaining the rules of engagement and how to prepare for prayer at a clinic.


The group will also hang out, share a meal, play games, and enjoy some conversation. There will be cornhole, frisbee, football, and a few other yard games – feel free to bring anything you'd like as well!


**You will be able to drop off food in the air-conditioned school cafeteria prior to 5:30 mass if desired (5-5:25pm).**


We will provide plates, napkins, cups, etc. If you're able, please bring some food to share. Fr. Estabrook will provide a grill, and we'll have a few condiments in case people bring meat to cook out. There is a  sign-up to bring a dish at the Facebook event invite..

 

About the Oliver Plunkett Club:


The Oliver Plunkett Club is a Service & Social Group for Young Adult Catholics formed by individuals from Cleveland's Latin Mass parishes. We plan to meet monthly on the second Monday of each month for a social event and once a month for a service project.   It was a match made in Heaven. The Traditional Latin Mass and some of Cleveland’s most beautiful, historic churches.  Immaculate Conception, St Stephen’s, St, Rocco’s and more recently Mary Queen of Peace, St. Elizabeth of Hungary and St. Ignatius of Antioch.    In many ways it was the fulfillment of former Bishop Pilla’s excellent Church in the City initiative.  Catholics from all over Northeastern Ohio gathering together in some of our older urban neighborhoods and worshipping Our Lord.  Obviously, the very positive financial impact on some of these struggling parishes can not be overstated.  It is significant and probably saved a parish or two.  But there is more.  Far more. They came for the Beauty, They Stayed to Give Back - The Latin Mass Community Rolls Up Its Sleaves!

Catholic Tradition is more than Latin, incense and bells; it is feeding a neighbor, clothing a stranger, and rescuing the unborn.  And so, when more and more young adults started returning to the beautiful, historic Catholic churches in urban Cleveland and attending the timeless Traditional Latin Mass, these same young adults found neighborhoods in need of their love, kindness and Christian Charity.        Thanks to these young Catholic traditionalists, last month we were able to witness Cleveland charity at its best.  And when the Cleveland Latin Mass community, the pro-life community, the Benedictines and people with good hearts all work together amazing things can happen.  In mid-March, on the eve of the Feast of St Joseph, friends of Father Bede OSB joined together to supply residents in the Buckeye/Shaker Blvd neighborhood with 100 free fish dinners from the Benedictine HS fish fry.  The idea started with the Oliver Plunkett Young Adult Club as a way of thanking Father Bede OSB fo

Saturday 9/9 at MQP: Answering Chaos with Personal Holiness - Donuts & Updates from the Catacombs II

Yes, the world is a mess.   But God never promised us this would be easy… As His son explained: “If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” And so, it is actually a great time to be Catholic in Cleveland, to pick up our cross, to sacrifice and to become a saint.  If you are lonely, come be with friends.  If you are nervous or even angry, come find peace. If you are apathetic, come find a cause to care about…you have a purpose.   And Simon Peter answered him: Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.
