Time for Pro-lifers to Join Our Lady in front of Preterm on Wednesdays & Fridays
Every Wednesday and Friday between 2 pm and 6 pm local
pro-life hero Fred Sokol can be found praying in front of Preterm – Cleveland’s
biggest abortion clinic. He is sometimes
joined by one or two others, but his most loyal companion is a life-size
replica image of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
According to one prominent, national Marian apostolate:
Fred Sokol of Rocky River, Ohio, is one of our Guardians of the Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He is a stouthearted prayer warrior who courageously stands weekly for long hours at the Preterm abortion center as a witness for life and a counselor for life to mothers seeking abortions. Some of the other abortion centers where he exercised his peaceful prayer presence with the Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe have since closed due to his and others peaceful prayer presence.
The story of how Fred obtained his life-size replica image
of Our Lady of Guadalupe is truly amazing and can be found here: “Mommy Let Me Live.”
Pro-life witnesses like Fred are invaluable to those of us
who care about defending the unborn. The
late Bernard Nathanson was an atheist and perhaps the leading abortionist in
the country before he abruptly converted to pro-life and ultimately Catholicism. In his epic autobiography, “The Hand of God,”
Nathanson credits the selfless witness of folks just like Fred for his two
conversions:
They prayed, they supported, and encouraged each other, they sang hymns of joy, and they constantly reminded each other of the absolute prohibition against violence. They prayed for the unborn babies, for the confused and pregnant women, and for the doctors and nurses in the clinic. They even prayed for the police and media who were covering the event. And I wondered: how can these people give of themselves for a constituency that is (and always will be) mute, invisible, and unable to thank them?
One of the
things we love most about Cleveland is its large and active pro-life
community. Cleveland has a number of
great prolife organizations that support the unborn and expectant mothers in a
myriad of different ways. Indeed, most Saturday mornings a number of prolifers show up to pray at Preterm.
So that leads
to the question: “Why aren’t there more
pro-lifers out there with Fred on Wednesday and Friday?”
We agree. Let’s go folks.
According to
Fred, Wednesday and Friday 2 pm to 6 pm are two of the busiest periods at the
Preterm abortion clinic. Let’s get out
there and pray with Fred. There are
hearts and minds just waiting to be converted.
